The monks are debating on Sutra to improve their knowledge. Debate
on Sutra is a very old way to discuss the Sutra, it is also the way to
testing the monk’s knowledge of Sutra. Monks will debate in small
groups, one or more will be question and only one will be answering,
the answering one cannot question back.And they are using a variety
of gestures to enhance the intensity of the debate.They either urged
each other to answer the question as soon as possible by claping，or
want to overcomes each other with the power of the buddha by
pulling the beads.When they clap the right hand “down” means they
catch their mistakes, when they wave their left hand “up” means
they’re agree with their opinion.
