CameraSelfies

  • Photographer
    Jürgen Novotny, Germany

What happens when photo cameras would come up with the idea
to take selfies? Historical, bizarre and beautiful cameras capture
photos of themselves... on background of contemporary
wallpapers. You are the mirror...

In the digital age very often the sensation of those mechanical
miracles seems to disappear, in a time where "analog" film
cameras retain their sometimes strange and special character
while the digital design is seemingly far ahead by any means.

Trying to preserve these sensations J. F. Novotny takes very
intimate "self portraits" of those unique "personalities".

Jürgen F. Novotny made his first steps in taking pictures at the early age of 6 years - with his first camera, an Agfa Silette I which he still owns. Further photography became an important part in his life.

With his project CameraSelfies and trying to preserve the sensation of these unique and historical film cameras J. F. Novotny takes very intimate "self portraits" in order to capture their "personalities".

Besides that J. Novotny wants to share a part of his work of the last 40 years: moments he captured on his journeys around the world, mainly Europe, North and South America.

Today the photographer lives in Germany where he – besides his activities as photographer – works as art director and designer in his own agency vivia.

Awards CameraSelfies feature on CNN, LUI magazine, german ProfiFOTO magazine, La Repubblica, LensCulture, PetaPixel etc.
