This image portrays a mannequin's head inside a placenta. An
extraordinary organ in several ways, the placenta constitutes
our common origin.

The work I submitted is from the series 'Final Pregnancy', where
I disclose another side of pregnancy. It evidences that being
pregnant is not necessarily as joyful and wonderful as many
pretend or think. During my last pregnancy I got confronted
with the vulnerability of the human body. There was a
discrepancy between my reality and the opinion of others: "Wow!
You look beautiful" and "this seems so easy for you". This
situation irritated, yet intrigued me and resulted in this project.

People are often quick in their judgement about each other, basing their opinions on the clothed body. I am intrigued by discrepancies between opinions and reality.

I prefer an illustrative style where confrontation meets beauty.

I graduated with honours from the Photo Academy Amsterdam in December 2013
