Nightly

  • Photographer
    Simone Aprile, Italy

With this series of photos, I want to tell the night as abstract
space. Through the headlights of the car that I'm driving by
myself, I freeze and reveal situations that otherwise would hide
in the dark.
In my night journey I bump into unreal, unbelievable, absurd,
ironic scenes, telling improbable characters who live on the road
and I give them light and voice in the “place non-place”, which
is
the night.

Simone Aprile was born in Syracuse and since then remains tied to its land of origin, even when physically distanced himself from it. Still child, he moved to Milan with his family where he studied the mechanics of photography. He graduated from the Institute Riccardo Bauer, but the encounter with Sandro Sciacca, estimated photographer, who forms them professionally. Then he started working as an assistant with several prestigious magazines, including Vogue, GQ, and AD. But it belongs to Sicily and, after a period of training, returns to the South, as an immigrant in reverse. For the love of this island that most leave in search of a more prosperous future, decides to spend its energies into a project that sums up everything he loves best: photography and Sicily. Founds with Andrea Maltese, Lab house, a studio-atelier-edge, which then developed independently. In his images protagonist is light, nothing is left to chance, his research is thorough, meticulous to the point of honor, devoid of superficiality. The protagonist is the detail, always essential and never merely ornamental, researched with the passion tenacious and stubborn, which is the hallmark of his character.
