FLOWER STUDIES

"Ever since my school days I have stolen the flowers to photograph. I use a bonsai scissors to cut one or two flowers.

I then look for a suitable location to make the photograph - a hotel room, a bathroom, yes anywhere. I put the flowers in the window and "cheat" sometimes rearranging the petals. I like long exposures, a minute is about minimum.It is fascinating what can happen in this time.

I process and print all my own work, sometimes spending weeks using traditional photographic chemistry to add and remove colours. I do not use photoshop. I learnt photography using large format cameras and I believe strongly in "making" photographs rather than t"taking" them and experimenting with materials and ideas as far as possible,
