FATHERHOOD

'Fatherhood' has the intention to develop and explore some relevant issues on the narrative of Domestic life and Intimacy, focusing the camera on a time of life that is both personal and profound: my fatherhood experience. The main target is to express these uncanny feelings during this particular time of life, a time that I feel must have a universal meaning for the viewers, the fatherhood and motherhood experience is without a shadow of doubt unique.
Normally what society and family albums show us are the conventional-happy photographs, documenting parenthood, a newborn arrival, the baby developing, growing up in a well functioning family, delightful, marvelous and happy moments.
However, these are mostly (if not entirely) conventionally happy moments, what is absent in such images are things we perceive as culturally mundane, taboo or even uncanny and disturbing.
What happens to these moments and why do we decide to avoid and not to document or record them?
I find it hard to believe that anyone who has had a child and this includes both men and women, can deny the initial disturbing experience of anxiety, fear and preoccupation that such an event brings along with it.
These typical moments and feelings are still an integral part of our lives and shape our relationships not just with our partner, other members of the family and society but ourselves too.
