Colchani is situated 568 km. south from ?La Paz?, 90% of its population works on the manual processing of salt.
?El Salar de Uyuni? (3.663 m.a.s.l.) has an area of 10.500Km.2, being the biggest salt flat in the world.
Franklin Aviza Huachi, who is 14 years old, works in the salt flat too. His day begins at 5:00 A.M and at 9:00 A.M, after he is done shoveling, he goes to school till 4:00 P.M and then continues working until dusk.
The Mamani family, Franklin?s family, is one of the many families who work in the salt flat. It is composed of mother, stepfather, and Franklin?s siblings.
Families get together in the ?Cooperativa Rosario? in order to organize and sell the salt, packed or stacked.
Christian Rodríguez was born in Montevideo, Uruguay in 1980. He studied visual arts in Dellioti (1990-1997). In 1999 he studied photography in the Dimensión Visual institution. From 2002 until 2004 he resided in Buenos Aires. On his return, he was part of the staff of photographers of La República newspaper. In 2005 he did the photojournalism workshop in Foto Club. . In 2006 he covered the conflict Israel-Hezbolah in Lebanon. He has also exhibited on his own Miradas (2001, Atrio IMM), Cambios, Retratos (2004, Enrique Fynn y Cinemateca Pocitos), Líbano (2007, Cabildo), Jeté ( Teatro Solís, 2008). In 2008 he won the Roberto Villagraz scolarship.
Today efti studying, doing a master in photojournalism. ( Madrid, Spain)
