Kazakhstan 2030

Kazakhstan, the ninth biggest counrty in the world, a country full of contrasts on any level. While the land and people are still recovering from the exploitation of the Soviet System, the new multi billion - contraversial cities and centres are built, mostly without proper environmental consideration. The selection of the images in this series takes us on a tour through the sites of the new Capital Astana, a pride of the president's dream, the sites of Kurchatov, the former secret nuclear test site centre and Caspian Sea towns Aktau and Atyrau.

Michal Honkys, born 28.07.1976 in the Czech Republic. In 2008 Michal completed a long environmental documentary project in Kazakhstan. He worked with various environmental specialists, journalists and local people to capture the levels of our reality we are creating and living. Michal's love for our planet and its inhabitants is reflected in his life and work; critical, suggestive and active, believing the change for better comes from our decisions, deeds and love.
