Shylah Smithey is a Georgia-based artist who employs a variety of photographic processes to create intimate narrative images. She began showing her work in 2005 and has since been selected for group exhibitions by many respected jurors, among them Barbara Hitchcock, Anna Walker Skillman, Stephan Bennett Phillips, Julian Cox, Jane Jackson, and Joyce Tenneson. Smithey is an active member in many photographic organizations including Women In Focus, the Atlanta Photography Group and the Society for Photographic Education. Her current and upcoming projects include shooting portraits of children available for adoption through the Heart Gallery and a portrait series based on female characters in southern literature.
