Peru has been experiencing intense internal migration for decades. Young people are the protagonists, abandoning rural areas, the heart of Andean culture, to migrate to large urban centers in search of new economic opportunities. Vast swathes of informal settlements known as invasions have developed around cities like Lima and Chimbote, often lacking basic services. Migration is not just a change of residence: the cultural, territorial, and political consequences are profound. Self-management becomes a concrete response to daily challenges, coexistence an inexorable collective necessity.
