A Summer of Violence Leads to a Decade of Activism
13-23: How a Summer of Violence Sparked a Decade of Activism is a decade-long project ending in 2023 documenting Baltimore City's murder rate and the activists who by-passed police to combat the city's violence. Baltimore saw a intense spike in homicides in 2013 from 219 in 2012 to 235 which at the time “defied regional and national trends.” Over that summer and until 2023 activists took to the streets to look out for their neighborhoods despite the police.
