Gun Nation

The US faces the 28th-highest global gun-violence death rate, with more 2023 mass shootings than days in a week. Guns, central in American society due to the Second Amendment, symbolize personal identity and contribute to political polarization. The AR-15 is now a tool of domestic terror for far-right militias anticipating civil unrest. Once fringe, these ideologies infiltrate mainstream politics, with ties to some candidates. A concerning resurgence in white supremacist ideologies, anti-government militias, and conspiracy theories undermines trust in institutions.
