Located in the Sahel region is the Ferlo Desert, an area of more than 70,000 square kilometers with a climate that has historically been dry and harsh. Despite the challenging environment, this region is home to nomadic communities such as the Peul, also known as the Fulani or Fula. These resilient pastoralists live a life closely tied to their herds of cattle, goats and sheep. Moving across the land in sync with their animals' grazing patterns, the Peul strive to preserve their unique culture and traditions in an ever-changing world with a climate that is becoming drier by the year.
