Rape is a global plague where vulnerable girls, women are exploited, abused, and the men walkaway, often exonerated! Sexual violence amongst children is a fundamental violation of their rights. In Rwanda it is reported over 50% of teen girls before the age of 18 have experienced sexual violence, far too many become pregnant, forced to drop out from school, and abandoned by their families. The perpetrators are rarely pursued and many times the girls are too shamed and afraid to report the offence, many of these vulnerable teens sink into life long poverty, suffer from trauma and depression.
Carol Allen Storey is an award-winning documentary photo journalist specialising in chronicling complex humanitarian and social issues.
“My images are intimate, about issues and citizens I deeply care about. I believe photographs may not be capable of doing the moral work for us, but they can trigger the process of social consciousness.”
In 2000 Carol graduated Central St. Martins, Master Photography Programme with distinction. Storey’s further degrees include an MA at Columbia University and a BA at Syracuse University. A native New Yorker, Storey resides in London
