The Rise of Industrial Pig Farming in Thailand

On assignment with The Guardian, I documented the growth of Thailand's pig farming industry, including both old and new practices.

Pig farming in Thailand can be classified into three systems. The farm I visited would be described as a ‘Finishing System’, where weaned pigs are raised until they reach market weight at around six months of age.

The slaughterhouse was located along a winding road leading to open-air buildings. I was invited inside to explore the circuit; the holding pens, the kill floor, and where the pigs are gutted, dismembered and packed into trucks for butchering and sale.
