The Georgians who had fought in the Abkhasian war, had to leave the region at the end of the Russian-backed war fearing reprisals or ethnic cleansing. These displaced people found in Tskaltubo a good place to settle because twenty monumental spas had been abandoned after the fall of the soviet union.Of the 200.000 scattered throughout Georgia, 9.000 remain in Tskaltubo waiting for the government to relocate them.Until this happens,the village will be an almost dying memory of the soviet era.Widows and war veterans live in peace while the grandchildren visit them in summer and play in the ruins
