Postcards from Confinement

"Postcards from Confinement" is a series of remote portraits of writers from around the world. During the course of the pandemic, I invited writers from Latin America, the US, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East to make their portrait through the computer, via a Zoom call. I then used a projector to cast the image onto different surfaces such as wood, vinyl, or cardboard in order to take advantage of the different textures and show this new, fragmented, slightly out of focus and, at times, even pixelated reality we currently find ourselves in.

Alejandro Meter is a documentary and portrait photographer who works on long-term projects. During the last few years, he has photographed Latin American writers in a variety of contexts including the US-Mexico Borderlands, the Latin American Jewish Diaspora, and Crime Fiction Writers, among others. His work has appeared in both print and digital media in the United States, Latin America, and Europe, and has been exhibited in the United States, Mexico, and Argentina.
