Despite the official change in legal status, many LGBTQIA people continue to face stigmatization and discrimination. Their immediate family and Indian society often shuns them.

In response to his own personal experience as a gay man, Charles created a safe haven for young people that are "coming out". Charles functions as the “Father ” and the group has formed a tight family like bond, similar to what might otherwise occur in a biological family.
