Urban Flux is a series of multiple exposure images of Hong Kong’s most iconic buildings in the central business district. The resultant abstraction of these contemporary structures is a representation of the constant movement and change in this metropolis. One’s gaze is lost with the normally gleaming towers being replaced by diffused facades. The sense of movement reduces these structures to their majestic form in the urban environment and creates a feeling of frenzy characteristic of this city. The images were made by creating in-camera multiple exposure files.
When creating an image, Ulana Switucha is inspired by light, shape, and tone. Her simple, often minimal, compositions present an awareness and a connection with the subject whether it be landscape, portraiture or documentary work. A Canadian based in Hong Kong, Ulana's work has been exhibited and published internationally. Her passion is best expressed by a quote from a contemporary photographer: “If I weren’t a photographer, I’d still be a traveler”.
