'Seeking Safety in Niger'
'Seeking Safety in Niger' is a glimpse into refugee life in the world's poorest country and how, despite the existing poverty, the government is protecting and providing for the fleeing refugees from northern Nigeria and beyond.
Since the birth of Boko Haram in 2002 in Nigeria's lawless northern region, hundreds of thousands of people have been forced from their land and homes by the deadly jihadist insurgency. Armed motorcycle gangs, who now control vast smuggling networks up through the Sahara and north, have been clashing with government forces from Nigeria, Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso.
