Folding screens

Trees, birds and flowers are traditional subjects in painted folding screens, where the placement of each element is crucial to the overall sense of depth, space and unity.

By applying a multi-panel frame to spontaneous scenes in nature, this series explores how our brains perceive and rearrange split reality and how this influences our perceptions of and emotions towards the familiar.

Amateur photographer based in Tokyo, using artistic photography to explore universal patterns occurring in nature.

Visualizing patterns, structures and forms that transcend species, time and physical reality helps me interrogate transiency and permanence, frailness and robustness, and find fundamental beauty in everyday life.
