Haircut in Cuba
Gold in Fine Art/People
Picture taken in La Havana. Hairdresser at night. The atmosphere
Laurent Muschel was born in Strasbourg (France) in 1968.
He has, among others diploma, a master in philosophy (at Sorbonne University).
He lives and works in Brussels with his wife and three kids.
He has done exhibits over the last five years in Belgium, France and Spain but also in the US and in Asia.
He was first discovered with his portfolio of black women in front of a black background. In a minimalist spirit, Laurent Muschel developed an "aesthetic investigation" which tries to capture the meaning of what he calls "Blackitude". His work gives some intense and unique light to these pictures where black is the dominant colour.
His second main portfolio is called "Back to the Museum". He has spent many hours in museums all around the world, looking for the perfect match between the back of the viewers and the paintings. This portfolio was published in 2013 (book: "Back to the museum", Editions Husson) and widely exhibited.
His new series is on Afro hairdressers from Addis to Accra, from Brussels to La Havana.
