Song to the Sirens

"Song to the Sirens" a series of images of the the West Indian
manatee (Trichechus manatus).

The Sirenia are thought to have evolved from four-legged land
mammals over 60 million years ago, with the closest living
relatives being the elephants.

Unfortunately as with many other species The main causes of
death for manatees are human-related issues, such as habitat
destruction and human objects. Natural causes of death include
adverse temperatures and disease.

These pictures were taken at the Crystal River National Wildlife
Refuge, Florida, USA in the winter of 2015 that being a very hot
one due to "El niño" many of the manatees that spent the winter in
the warmer waters of the spring stayed in the golf of Mexico as
waters were still warm.
