I usually select a house at random, never knowing who will open
the door or what awaits me once inside. However, when I leave
that dwelling after an hour, we have turned from strangers to
friends.

Their pride, hospitality, cooperation and respect seem so
incongruous with what the eyes of the more privileged see, or
want to see - defining qualities that are often invisible to the
outsider.

These brief and impromptu encounters always leave me filled with
awe and admiration, and assist me to maintain a uniquely
optimistic perspective on life.

This panel will form part of a collection of images for publication
in a book that is intended to raise awareness of the challenging
conditions that many souls in South Africa still live in.
