KIA operate in collaboration with FBR through the Kachin State in
Burma in order to protect them and avoid contact with the Burma
Army during missions to deliver humanitarian relief to internally
displaced people (IDP’s) and reporting human rights violations.
The Kachin Independence Army (KIA) was funded by the Kachin
Independence Organization (KIO) in response to a military coup in
Burma in the early 1961.
KIA initially fought for independence, but changed to seek
autonomy within a federal union of Burma.

Born in Italy in 1979. After graduating with a master’s degree in photojournalism in Rome in 2010, he started to work as a freelance photographer focusing attention to documentary photography.
His photographs has been published in national and international publications, including Stern, Le Monde, Die Zeit, The Guardian, Days Japan, Internazionale, La Repubblica, Terra Mater.
Recently he has worked in Democratic Republic of Congo, Israel and Palestinian Territories, Syria, Central African Republic, Iraq, Burma.
