ma | re ("mare" in English means "sea")

Poetto is the town beach of Cagliari, the largest and most
populous urban centre of Sardinia.
This beach has always been the flagship of the city, with its fine
and thin white sand and its “casotti”, little buildings midway
between an hanging room and a little beach house, removed at the
end of Eighties. At their place, along the 8 kilometers and more of
dark sand, currently, disharmonic beach resorts alternate with
crumbling structures abandoned to themselves.
Few years ago, furthermore, an unscrupulous attempt, trying to
restore the old superfine white sand typical of the beach, has
changed color and grain size of the strand creating a coast made
by dark and very coarse sand.
Between the simple and infinite greatness of the sea and men's
action who often, from ten years about on this coast, mean mess
and decline, people of Cagliari who has knew the real beauty of
the Poetto compare with what it was and what it is now.

Born on October, 5th 1984 in Cagliari, Sardinia (Italy) and currently based in Bologna.

At a very young age he started to draw, so the pencil become actually a loyal partner used to create art, and not an instrument of torture to work in surveying world. Then, as years went by, his drawing style changed, slowly abandoning the pastels to concentrate solely on the black and white creations.

Roberto has encountred the World of Photography about four years ago and the monochrome has quickly became his natural habitat.

Thanks to some of his masters, especially Winogrand, Erwitt, Friedlander e Doisneau, he promptly met what is now generally called “street photography”.

His photographs have been shown in many personal and collective exhibitions inside the main Sardinian art galleries, national galleries like Venezia, San Marino, Padova, Salerno, Taranto and abroad in countries like France, Thailand, South Korea and Malta.

Among his works, it’s possible to mention “ma | re”, an intimate description of one governative-naturalistic scandal, which had a huge impact on the all city of Cagliari (Capital of Sardinia). This photographic story shows the drama of Poetto Beach, a corner of Paradise on Earth, now going through a depressing state of abandon. Roberto, thanks to this work, has won the 1st place category “Books – Non Professional” and being also nominated as a finalist in “Discovery of the Year Award” at the “IPA International Photography Awards 2015”, the 2nd place category “Special: Open Theme – Non Professional” at the “ND Neutral Density Awards 2015”, the 3rd place in “People choice – Non Professional” category “Book Proposal – Documentary” at the “PX3 Prix de la Photographie Paris 2015” and he has been awarded with a “Honorable Mention – Book Documentary” at the “MIFA Moscow International Foto Awards 2015”.
