On February 4th, 2019 the largest group of humanity gathered in the history of the world in the pop-up city of Allahabad, India. Hindus from every corner of India came to bathe at the confluence of two real rivers (Ganges and Yamuna) and one mythical (Saraswati), at the most auspicious time according to the stars. After the Naga Sadhus (ascetic mystics who take a vow of nudity, smearing ash on their bodies to stay warm) consecrate the river at dawn, millions followed believing that a dip at this auspicious time and place would rid them of sin and break the recurring cycle of life and death.

When not roaming the world with her camera capturing local light, spaces and faces Diana Berrent is based in Port Washington with her husband, dog and two children. Diana’s travels have taken her to six of the seven continents where she is drawn to documenting the colorful texture of local culture, landscape and street life. Diana took this image waist deep in the Ganges River. Diana is proud to be represented by August Images and ATTA Curated.
