béni, cursed city

Béni is a city located in the north-east of the Democratic Republic of Congo. In the last elections of December 30, 2018, its residents were denied their right to participate in the presidential election between Emmanuel Ramazani Shadary and his main opponent, Martin Fayulu. The reasons refered to the government to justify this exclusion are apparently of a security nature, in a city where the massacres of civilians are increasing. But they are also for sanitary reasons: Beni is indeed facing an outbreak of Ebola that killed 360 people during the four months preceding the poll.
