PX3 Prix de la Photographie Paris 2024 – Professional
First Place Winner in Special – Black and White Evanescence
How has your personal experience or background shaped the themes you explore in your photography?
As a fine art photographer, my photographic approach is distinctly “pictorial” and profoundly influenced by landscapes that frequently resonate with me emotionally; for this reason, my style is the interpretation and not the reproduction of them.
What drew you to participate in photography competitions like Px3, and how has this recognition influenced your career?
A few years ago, my wife Jessica encouraged me to participate in PX3, which I found to be a really interesting event that offers significant prominence in the worldwide photography arena.
Can you walk us through the creative process behind your winning image? Were there any unexpected moments during the shoot?
The challenge of accurately depicting specific locations, whether urban or natural , is frequently constrained by the technical limitations of cameras; consequently, I mainly utilize technical cameras, my Alpapano, which enables me to address these challenges and produce expansive images suitable for fine art printing. During the decisive shot in New York, the challenge was maintaining stability of the camera on the tripod due to the severe wind conditions that day!
How do you balance technical skill and artistic vision in your work?
The greatest shot is usually a solid compromise between the skills learnt in the field via numerous projects and procedures and one’s own artistic vision. I always endeavour to develop both talents since they are essential to achieving my goals.
In what ways do you think photography as a medium can drive social change or impact public perception?
Photography has the capacity to transform the world through the image itself; it may inspire feelings and provide us with fresh and/or unique perspective, as well as show us a situation or a way of looking at things, eliciting emotions and guiding our lives.
Are there any particular genres or subjects you want to explore further in the future?
I would like to experiment with night photography with analogue cameras and long exposure in my future trips for my long term project “ Americana”.
What are your long-term goals as a photographer, and how do you plan to evolve your work moving forward?
My long term goal in photography is to convey emotions through my images, to inspire the audience that views them, and to move them towards raising awareness about issues related to pollution and global warming.
