True Sight restages Māra's assault, the scene painted across Thai temple walls. On the night of the awakening, Māra's army rises to drive Siddhattha from his seat; the earth goddess Phra Mae Thorani wrings from her hair a flood that carries the army away. What follows is enlightenment, described in the texts as seeing things as they truly are. The photograph holds the scene one breath before that seeing: the soldiers are silhouettes adrift inside the wave, dissolving together with the delusion that assembled them.
