Shot over 2 years beneath small bridges over an old canal in Kawasaki, concrētus enters the city's underside.
Crouching in the dim, I repeatedly photographed traces and returned to what the images had unintentionally revealed. It is as if an unconsciousness that slipped out of the city’s order is merging with the background, eroding boundaries. As I lowered my gaze to meet them, a human-centered sense of time and scale began to fade.
In Latin, concrēscere refers to a process in which different things grow together into one. This work returns concrete, with the space it encloses, to that sense.
