Since ancient times, Japan has practiced a form of nature worship in which it is believed that gods and spirits dwell in all things.
In Noh, a traditional performing art, a large pine tree is depicted in the background of the stage.
Since Noh is a performing art in which “gods and spirits manifest themselves before people,” the pine tree is regarded as an entity that ensures the “venue for their appearance.” In Noh, the pine tree is not merely a backdrop; it is an extremely important symbol representing gods, spirits, time, and boundaries.
I am drawn to the pine tree at the boundary.

Born in Tokyo. Working with a film camera, she carries out the entire silver‑gelatin process herself, from developing the film to printing on fiber-based paper. This pursuit leads to the theme of water as the source of life and connects to memories of amniotic fluid before birth.
Her primary subjects are architecture and plants, and she photographs with the perspective that all human‑made things, including architecture, can be regarded as part of the natural world. She continues to create works that examine the layered experiences and identities accumulated within each place.
