Aleppo (Syria), January 2026. Fighting between Syrian government forces and Kurdish-led forces escalated in northern Aleppo, concentrating on the predominantly Kurdish neighborhoods of Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh, with clashes also affecting adjacent areas. The confrontation unfolded in densely populated urban blocks, where entrances, main roads, and high-ground positions became contested points and civilian movement was increasingly constrained.
