Animal rights activists document conditions inside an industrial pig farm in Portugal operated by one of the country’s largest pork producers and certified under a welfare scheme.

The series follows their entry through confined, artificially lit interiors, showing sows in farrowing crates, restricted while nursing piglets. Dead animals and signs of distress are observed within enclosures. The work highlights tensions between activist efforts for transparency, welfare certification claims, systemic issues and conditions in industrial animal agriculture.

Animals Are Beings Too is a documentary project by Noah Marsten examining farm animal agriculture. It documents the daily lives of animals raised for food, often in environments unseen from public view.

By presenting these scenes directly, without embellishment, the project invites viewers to confront systems they rarely see. Rooted in bearing witness, it explores what happens within the food industry while acknowledging the perspectives of those working within and against it, revealing both animal treatment and the human frameworks that rationalise it.
