Captured at the North Berwick Sea Pool on a late December evening, this photograph explores the relationship between the man-made tidal pool and the wild North Sea beyond.

A slow shutter speed transforms the retreating tide into sweeping, painterly lines, contrasting with the weight of the winter sky and the distant silhouette of Bass Rock.

The image reflects my ongoing interest in light, movement and the quiet power of coastal landscapes, revealing beauty in the fleeting moments between sea and shore.

Michaela Simpson is a Scottish photographer and printmaker whose work is inspired by the changing light, landscapes and the stories held within them. Based in North Tyneside, she combines photography and printmaking to create thoughtful, atmospheric images that celebrate quiet moments and a strong sense of place. She is a Royal Photographic Society member and a Sigma Creator.
