Arcanian Parish, a current photo collage series, digitally combines my photography with historic imagery. Created from 3 centuries of photography, these pieces depict the untold stories of men who, in 19th century Louisiana, would escape their worlds and gather at clandestine hideaways exploring friendship, love, nature, home, religion, death and the afterlife.
My interests lie in the flawed processes and alluring characters found in the images of early photography. The poses, expressions, attire, landscapes and architecture are among the elements I combine to create these arcane stories.
David Knox has traveled throughout the American South documenting the region for 30 years. His current work combines his photography with historic imagery to create photo collages in the realm of historical fiction.
Knox completed his MFA at the San Francisco Art Institute in 2005 and his work has been shown in galleries and museums throughout the South. In 2019 he was awarded Fine Art Photographer of the Year by the International Photography Awards. He has taught photography since 1996 and is represented by Cole Pratt Gallery in New Orleans.
