Temporal Misunderstanding merges my grandfather’s 1920s–30s Venice family photographs with AI. The original prints carry lived memory; the AI has none, so it “reconstructs” a past it never knew, expanding each frame into imagined surroundings. Past and present overlap but never fully align: glitches and impossible structures echo how human memory edits, omits, and reinvents. By staging this clash between evidence and simulation, the work questions photography’s claim to truth and asks how we fill gaps—human or machine.
