Big cities can be described as a reversal of nature; Sealed surfaces, concrete, glass – hardly any green.

This leads to more heat, dust, noise and greater stress for humans.

To counteract this local recreation areas are created and facades in particular offer plenty of space for greenery. The series was created in Singapore, where developers of new buildings are obliged to green at least the newly sealed surface. These lower the ambient temperature, absorb pollutants and noise. This increases people’s well-being and improves the microclimate and biodiversity.

I work in architecture. Running, talking my way past fences, finding the door that's supposed to be locked — that's the job as much as the camera.

Before I photographed buildings, I roofed them. That view from above never left me: light, geometry, the strange life a structure has when no one's watching.

My work has been exhibited at the Deutsches Architektur-Museum and the Architecture Biennale Venice, decorated with the Architecture MasterPrize and the European Architectural Photography Prize.
