My wife’s body has been shaped by external interventions, mine by self-inflicted scars. Like Polaroid emulsion, skin can crack, tear, and be cut. Transferring the emulsion mirrors the body’s inevitable change. I turn to kintsugi — repairing with gilded lacquer — whose Japanese philosophy embraces imperfection, impermanence, and the beauty of visible repair. This project honors how trauma and destruction shape and transform us.
