The most talked about soccer-game in the Netherlands of 2024 was not a typical game between Dutch arch-rivals Ajax and Feyenoord, but it was a European League game between Dutch team Ajax and Israeli team Maccabi Tel Aviv. Prior to the game there was discontent in parts of Dutch society about the fact that an Israeli team, from a country in war, was allowed to play in the Netherlands. After the game, riots broke out, and Maccabi Tel Aviv supporters were chased and assaulted. This photo series show the pre-game atmosphere, while Maccabi Tel Aviv didn't know what was going to come their way.
