Opera Povera

Over two days, the series documents rehearsals and the concert in clear, compositional images: gleaming tuning rods, string patterns, and bowed curves form graphic lines, while light-and-shadow contrasts emphasize hands, faces, and gestures. The photographs guide the viewer from focused work in the half-light of the rehearsal room to the energetic climax under spotlights, tracing the process from the first note to the applause.

Nina Sommer is a Basel-based photographer and multidisciplinary artist. At the heart of her work is the observation of people, moments, and atmosphere. Guided by an intuitive sensitivity to light, presence, and timing, she creates photographs that combine documentary authenticity with a visual language.

Photography is the foundation of her artistic practice. Complemented by cyanotype and floral art, her work explores themes of impermanence, materiality, and memory. Moving between documentary observation and fine art, her images invite viewers to discover the extraordinary within the ordinary.
