The Last Serbs of Kosovo
Since 1999, over 200,000 Serbs have left Kosovo, including 22,000 forcibly displaced. Today, Serbs account for just 5% of the population, living mainly in the Serb-majority north and isolated southern enclaves under NATO (KFOR) protection. Facing unemployment above 50%, limited resources, and inter-ethnic tensions, these communities remain tied to Kosovo’s profound cultural and spiritual significance, embodying a struggle of survival, identity, and history amid ongoing geopolitical challenges.
