Sudan’s civil war has been raging for two years, and to date has left tens of thousands dead and some 13 million displaced to other regions of the country or over neighboring borders.
The fighting erupted on the streets of Khartoum on April 15, 2023, between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), the country's military, and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which former Sudanese leader Omar Bashir created to quell insurgents in the Darfur region approximately 25 years earlier.
This series was photographed shortly after the RSF militants fled the heavily destroyed capital in late March of 2025.
