Having a fascination with the works of Ukiyo-e landscape artists; I enjoy how they depict the weather and the ocean in a less literal, ‘compressed’ or ‘flattened’ perspective. This approach to composition, contrasts a literal perspective we're used to when looking at waves as a subject matter. Unlike the typical fashion in which a wave breaks, to achieve this physical form, specifics are required to marry together. The correct swell direction, energy and size (not swell too big or too small) and the perfect tide to allow for the reverse pressure of refraction to flare the wave energy out.
