ATHENS 42 DAYS - THE UNDISCLOSED CITY

“Athens 42days” documents a unique moment in the life of the Greek capital during the 6 weeks of the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown, blending desolate urban landscapes with intimate portraits of individuals in enforced isolation. The stark cityscapes, echoing archival formality, disclose the street façade as the fragile threshold between public and private life, while indoor portraits reflect the emotional toll of confinement. Rather than treating the pandemic as a temporary anomaly, the work explores the broader narrative of allienation and solitude in the modern metropolis

Demetris Koilalous was born in Athens; he has been working as a freelance photographer since 1990, specializing in portrait and theatre photography. He has collaborated with many public and private organisations, central and local government institutions, museums, and national, regional and municipal theatres; his works have been published in many Greek magazines and newspapers. Since 2004, he has been teaching photography in private and public institutions. His works are found in numerous private collections, as well as in the collection of the Museum of Photography of Thessaloniki
