These places near Baku city, Azerbaijan, have not yet been overrun by crowds of tourists. The harsh, extremely windy, hot, and unforgiving desert landscape and mud volcanos allows for a rare encounter with nature — in solitude, or nearly so.

Anatoly Suzdaltsev is a visual artist. Born in 1980 in the Southern Urals, he is based in Almaty, Kazakhstan, and studies at Fotografika Academy.

His practice focuses on urban photography, vernacular archives, and the nonhuman. Anatoly explores spaces through analogue photography and photogrammetry, AI, 3D, other methods of computational photography.

He is interested in the boundaries between memory and constructed reality. He primarily works through the photobook format, creating works with multiple layers of meaning that invite readers to uncover hidden connections and interpretations.
