ETHER

“ETHER” is a monochrome piece that imagines the luminous atmosphere within a greenhouse—a space suspended between nature and artifice. Captured on film and printed manually in the darkroom on fiber-based paper, the work explores the unseen qualities of air: its texture, moisture, and light. The analog method is essential to her practice, allowing subtle shifts in tone and depth that echo the delicate essence of the subject.
She decided to submit a Lith print after learning that the award included an analog photography category.

Born in Tokyo. Working with a film camera, she carries out the entire silver‑gelatin process herself, from developing the film to printing on fiber-based paper. This pursuit leads to the theme of water as the source of life and connects to memories of amniotic fluid before birth.
Her primary subjects are architecture and plants, and she photographs with the perspective that all human‑made things, including architecture, can be regarded as part of the natural world. She continues to create works that examine the layered experiences and identities accumulated within each place.
