Brixton-on-Sea

As a Brixton resident and frequent visitor to England’s east coast, I began this project to explore the tension between city life and urge to escape it. By combining analog photos of Brixton’s streets with coastal imagery, I use water as a metaphor — both cleansing and destructive. This project reflects how people are emotionally and physically displaced in the face of rising pressures in London. It questions whether retreating to the coast is a solution or another form of wave-like gentrification of both spaces.
