In Japan, folded paper cranes symbolize prayer and remembrance.
While a thousand cranes (senbazuru) are offered with hope, they are sometimes seen as a burden—prayers with nowhere to go.
This work, This World, captures a face weighed down by countless wishes, reflecting the pain and contradictions of living today.
The Buddhist idea that “this world is for discipline” suggests we must live fully now—yet it also implies that peace lies only in death.
