Haiti In Turmoil

Since the assassination of the former Haitian Prime Minister, Jovenal Moise, in July of 2021, the country has been on a fast downward spiral of lawlessness and brutal gang violence, with thousands killed and kidnapped as raging street battles for territory continue. According to UN figures, there were nearly 5,000 homicides counted in Haiti in 2023, more than double the number in 2022.
In late February 2024, deadly coordinated gang attacks against the prisons, police stations, and government buildings closed the airport and eventually forced out then-Prime Minister Ariel Henry.

Giles Clarke is a photojournalist focusing on capturing the human face of current and post-conflict global issues.
